Increased Neighborhood Traffic- TRPA and Douglas County are Choosing to Waive Traffic Study Requirement
TRPA & Douglas County Waiving Traffic Study Requirement-Claiming New Building & Location Would Create Less Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT)
Things have changed since the days of Lakeside Inn & Casino- TRPA and Douglas County are failing to recognize:
-
Traffic on all of HWY 50 (and specifically in this area) is much heavier than it was 3-5-7-9 years ago
-
Douglas County and TRPA approved the Tahoe Beach Club which is adding 143 (two to six bed) residences to the area
-
Tahoe Beach Club has non-resident and corporate memberships which create additional traffic to the area
-
-
A formal trailhead parking area has been added to Kahle Drive
-
Lakeside had 2 large entrances/exits along HWY 50 which handled all of the traffic (very little traffic from Lakeside used Laura Drive and/or Kahle Drive)

Barton Health is proposing:
1. Only one entrance/exit on HWY 50
2. A parking garage with one entrance/exit on Kahle Drive- which will create new traffic to the area.
3. A large parking lot in the back corner- which will create new traffic to the area.
4. Emergency Room access on Kahle Drive- which will create new traffic to the area.

For all of these reasons we believe a formal traffic study is needed.

TRPA and Douglas County are claiming 59% reduction in average annual VMT and 57% in daily trips.
This does not seem to make any sense.
30000 live in El Dorado County portion of Lake Tahoe
5600 live in Douglas County portion of Lake Tahoe
Common sense would suggest more people from CA side would be traveling a longer distance to access healthcare services at the proposed site in Nevada.
Barton's Initial Example Parking/Landscape Drawing
****This drawing is not final. With the proposed special approvals the entire building could be built to 85+ feet. It could be a vertical box. ****
Increased Traffic On Laura Drive
All traffic accessing the large parking lot in the far corner (see red circle) of the site will have to use Laura Drive. This parking lot location does not make sense and without a doubt will increase vehicle traffic on Laura Drive.
Increased Traffic on Kahle Drive & Hwy 50 Intersection
There would be a large impact on Kahle Drive for all traffic accessing the hospital parking garage and the large back parking lot. This level of traffic will make things more difficult for residents as they try to get in/out of the neighborhood.
